What You’ll Do
This tour offers you a complete immersion in Mauritania: from the ancient cities of Adrar to the Atlantic Ocean, including an unforgettable night on board the desert train.
Itinerary
DAY 1: Towards Chinguetti and the Adrar Mountains
- On the road to the Adrar Mountains. You will be picked up from your guesthouse by car for the departure to Chinguetti. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route to the Adrar.
- Visit the Amogjar Canyon and its rock paintings.
- Arrive in Chinguetti in the early evening. We will admire the sunset from the Great Dune while sharing Mauritanian tea. Dinner and overnight stay at a guesthouse.
DAY 2: Authentic Adrar
- Breakfast at the guesthouse. We depart for a visit to the old town of Chinguetti and a library. We stroll through the sandy streets and admire Mauritanian handicrafts.
- We board the 4×4 vehicles and drive towards the Terjit oasis. There, we enjoy a meal, a swim, and relaxation in the shade of the palm trees. We then set up camp for the night outside the oasis. A local meal is prepared by the team. We spend the night under the starry Saharan sky.
DAY 3: Ben Amera & Desert Train
- After breakfast served by the team, we drive towards Choum. We visit the Choum Tunnel and follow the railway line. We arrive at the Ben Amera monolith.
- Lunch in the shade of Ben Amera or Aicha. We then drive to T’memichat and board the train, where we will spend the night.
DAY 4: Banc d’Arguin National Park
- Arrival by train and departure from Nouadhibou to Cap Tafarit in Banc d’Arguin National Park.
- Lunch in Tafarit and evening, dinner and overnight stay on the beach in a tent/under the stars. The meal will consist of the day’s catch, if successful.
DAY 5: The Ocean Coast
- Breakfast on the beach, then we board 4×4 vehicles and drive to Nouakchott. We stop at the fishing village of Mamghar. Lunch between the dunes and the ocean. We observe flamingos, migratory birds, and more.
- Return to Nouakchott in the afternoon, where we head to the fishing port to watch the fishermen arrive with their catch of the day.
- Transfer to the airport or your accommodation if you wish to continue your stay.
