    What You’ll Do

Your journey begins with the discovery of the Adrar dunes and their Saharan landscapes of ergs and regs. The slow camel trek invites you to silence and contemplation. Throughout your journey, you will encounter nomads and perhaps share three traditional teas, zrig (a drink made from camel or goat milk), and some dates, symbols of Mauritanian hospitality.

You will wander through the narrow, sandy alleyways of Chinguetti, the ancient caravan city and seventh holiest city in Islam. You will experience its serenity and marvel at its intellectual heritage preserved in family libraries.

You will continue your immersion in the Saharan landscapes by boarding the famous desert train, featured in numerous television documentaries. You will experience an extraordinary adventure, getting up close to the Mauritanian people.

The next leg of the journey takes place in the territories of two Mauritanian national parks: Banc d’Arguin in the north and Diawling National Park in the south. You will observe their exceptionally diverse vegetation and birds.

At Banc d’Arguin, you will have the opportunity to meet the Imragen tribe, ancestral fishermen of the Mauritanian Atlantic coast. They will invite you aboard their lanche—a traditional sailing fishing boat—for a day of observation and sharing.
